The beautiful is as useful as the useful. More so perhaps...

A lot happens in two months

Greetings all! It's been a phenomenal February and March wrapping up commission work and getting new work ready for Houston! Bayou City Memorial Park is March 24-26. It's my only Houston show this year (Sorry Woodlands) so if you're anywhere in the vicinty it's this weekend or bust! I've got a lot of work to do. I wish that it were only painting keeping me busy but in other big news...

We're selling the cottage

Seriously, we are selling our home in Wichita, KS. It will go up for sale on Wednesday March 23. If you or anyone you know might be interested, or if the pictures look interesting, please send me an email! Share this with anyone you remotely think would be in the market for a home. Even if you are not looking for an awesome home with loads of character and just want see the inside, I invite you in. It's a very charming place and we will miss it dearly but it is time to say goodbye because...

The Wood family is growing!

God willing, come August, Ernest IV will have a brother or sister. The more the merrier I always say, at least I'm saying that right now. I am very excited. It's been a joy being the painting dad and I'm looking forward to new adventures and lots and lots of kids. (My wife proofreads each of these emails she's shaking her head right now).

Speaking of Ernest IV

Ernest is really growing. He attends all our OB visits. When asked what he sees on the sonogram screen he answers, "Ffsssshh." Apparently his coming sibling is going to be a fish. We'll let you know how that turns out. Here he is wearing his first pair of chucks.

What you really signed up for

Alright, I'm done with the family stuff even though I know most of you just want to see Ernest IV and that's the only reason you open this email. (Whatever works). I am still a painter! Here's a new piece I'm really excited about. I love the play between two and three dimensions here and the bricks are so unique in their own way and it's always about light! It's called "Not One Will Be Left On Another." I've added about eight new pieces and you can see them here. The nice thing about receiving my newsletter is that you get first dibs before any of the pieces go public. Please let me know if there is a piece you'd like to purchase by simply replying to this email.

Wichita North 20 years later...

I was privileged enough to be invited to my alma mater, Wichita High School North. For those of you outside of Wichita, you've got to check out this building! It was built in the 1920s in the height of art deco. It is a thing of rare beauty in our utilitarian minimalistic architectural age. What I find ironic is, new buildings built solely for their utility will ultimately become useless, bulldozed. Whereas Wichita North will endure, why? It was made based on aesthetic beauty, and it is beauty that remains, becomes dear to people. Beauty, useless, becomes the only thing that is useful.

This great day never would have happened if it weren't for some fine detective work by teacher Mr. Horning. He even worked it out so that I could present a reproduction of "Light Reading" to adorn the library at the school! I had a great time talking with the art students and being shown the new additions to the building. Thanks to Mrs. Coburn (my 20 years faithful North High School journalism teacher) for the pictures!
Cheers, and thanks for reading,
Ernest Vincent Wood III
Gender reveal next email everyone. It'll kind of be like a party you don't have to go to. I'd love to hear from you. Will it be a boy or girl?
